Dimdim Meeting Portal : 3.0.0 Beta

dimdimCourtesy of the Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development blog, dimdim, an online meeting portal, looks VERY interesting. Most impressive to me is the fact that it’s an open source project. From what I seen of the demo, this could easily rival Microsoft’s LiveMeeting or Adobe’s Acrobat Connect. My initial impression that it’s closer to Acrobat Connect as it offers Audio and Video without the need for a phone bridge. Equally cool it that it can be integrated with Moodle, the well-known Open Source Course Management System (CMS).

ClarolineAlso, while checking this one out, I came upon Claroline — a web-based eLearning and eWorking platform. eWorking? My impressions of this is that it’s a CMS, but it also appears to be able to provide some integrated eWorking capabilities by conducting some activities completely online within the confines of Claroline.  Similar to Moodle, in as far as a CMS, but the integrated learning activities that can be added to courses looks very interesting.

You should definitly check other open source LMS besides Claroline. We at the University of Zurich work with OLAT (Online Learning And Training, see http://www.olat.org), its not a CMS but a learning management system (LMS) similar to Moodle but better :-)

    Thanks Joel,

Actually, I have taken a brief look at it and mentioned it over on my other blog.

I agree with Joel, OLAT is worth special attention. I tried it and it was easy and cool: at first I created a presentation in PowerPoint, then converted it with iSpring Pro (http://www.ispringsolutions.com) and that’s it! Course is ready to go.
