Race day has come and gone

A Close One

So today was race day!  The cars have been ready for a few days and they finally made it to the track.

Dan’s car did very well, compared to last year.  Last year his car placed a horrible last place in every heat he ran in and it destroyed him.  I was SO thankful that this year his car was competitive.  He came in second a couple of heats and first for one of them and ended up placing 5th overall for his den.  Actually, both Webeleos dens were combined for a total of 12 cars, so 5th out of 12 isn’t all that bad.

Darrin’s car did pretty well too.  He won a couple of his heats and ultimately captured 7th place out of 18 cars in the Open Class.  My car competed in the same class and I ended up just behind Darrin in 8th.  It’s too bad though that our two cars didn’t get an opportunity to run in the same heat, that would have been fun to see. On average, Darrin’s car was 2 tenths of a MPH faster than my car.

As for my den…  I had two of my Webelos Scouts capture 2nd and 3rd for the pack — first place went to a Bear Scout who in the first heat actually broke and axle, replaced it on the spot, and STILL had the fastest car of the pack.  WOW!

Overall, the boys had a GREAT time, the cars were competitive, and Dan & Darrin’s cars were faster than dad…  a great race day for sure.
