What a great 3 days of scouting… went on a camp out with a local troop and had an awesome time. I took some of my BALOO training to heart, or maybe “to stomach?”
I prepped as much of our food as possible before the camping trip so that when dinner time rolled around, it wasn’t a major production. Specifically, we had hot dogs and chili via foil pouch cooking over charcoal briquettes for dinner. Then for breakfast I introduced my den parents to omelets in a bag. This is where my prep came in handy. The onions and bacon were prepared beforehand so all we had to do was break eggs, drop them in the ziplock bag, add in the onions, bacon, and some shredded cheese, and it was ready for the boiling pot of water. my den parents LOVED it! I also learned of a couple of other methods of easy cooking from my den parents that I’m eager to try out some time.
The boys had a great time, learned a few things that they hadn’t learned with other troops, but most of all, they had fun! I was also VERY proud of my scouts as when it came to the camp fire Saturday evening, when asked if any Webelos Scouts dens had a skit, my boys were the first to perform. I believe they did 4 or 5 skits before the night was through — they easily rivaled the Boy Scout troop who was hosting us — all without even a mention from my on whether or not they should do a skit, they came up with everything themselves. It was awesome.
A great scouting weekend!
