As my son Daniel gets closer to achieving his Webelos Scout badge, I thought Christmas was as good a time as any to go ahead and retire his blue Cub Scout uniform and graduate him to the new tan uniform worn by Boy Scouts and allowed for Webelos Scouts.
So we cruised in to the council’s scout shop on Friday picked out the shirt and all the necessary patches and then home to put the patches on. The wife isn’t all that crazy about sewing patches on uniforms so we decided to give Badge Magic a try this time. Following the instructions we washed the shirt first. Once dry I commenced to putting patches on. Got everything on the shirt minus the patrol patch when I see the BOY SCOUTS of AMERICA over the right breast pocket is missing the M and CA?!?!?
What I thought was embroidered is apparently just small iron-on patches as well — poorly done I might add. It was already late Saturday, so I call the scout shop on Sunday and ask them what we could do. I would have been content to simply sew on an actual embroidered patch over the top, but apparently they don’t have those (as they used to exist on the old style shirts). To my surprise and delight they told me to simply bring the shirt and all the patches and they would exchange everything. How cool is that?
So Monday morning, I cruised in to our scout shop and true to their word, they exchanged the shirt, all the patches, and even the Badge Magic. Now THAT is service.
